All Sockets comes under this category. IC Sockets, IC Base
18 Pin IC Base Socket
IC Bases or Sockets are commonly used while soldering ICs to PCB. These are generally meant for avoiding the damages of IC during soldering and for easy replacement of ICs. Overheating of ICs may damage it which are generally costly components in a PCB. The usage of IC Base / Socket is inexpensive when compared to the time / effort required to replace an IC. Replacing an IC without IC base may also damage the prototype board. These IC sockets / bases are commonly made using thermoplastics and tin-plated alloy contacts. One end of these sockets are normally notched for identifying the direction of IC placement.
USB Socket Type B Right Angle
USB Type B Female Right Angle Through Hole Socket having four connection pins : VDD, VSS, D+ and D-. The spacing between these pins are 2.54mm which makes it can be easily inserted in to perf boards (DOT PCB) and development boards with little modification. You can either drill two 2.1mm holes for the support posts or cut them off completely. But cutting them is not recommended as those support posts are also used to connect GND to metallic shell which acts as a protective shielding against external noises all over the communication channel.
