I wondered if you can please assist me with something. I came upon your article about the dc motor speed control. I am trying to do the same but what i want to achieve is when the push button is pressed the motor must turn clockwise but at a speed of 1000 rpm and when the other push button is pressed the motor must turn counter clockwise but at a speed of 1500 rpm. I would just like to know how would i control the speed of the motor ?

You can do the program by combining details in these two tutorials : Interfacing DC Motor with PIC Microcontroller and DC Motor Speed Control using PIC Microcontroller PWM. You need to calibrate the value of duty cycle with RPM, there is no other way.

Just another question please, will this same scenario be able to work with a AC motor instead of a DC motor?

No, for AC motors you need to change the frequency of the sine wave.
